You are probably more ready than you think. Most people who Heli-Ski are fit, intermediate skiers - people just like you.
You are ready to Heli-Ski if you:
- Are at a strong intermediate or advanced level, choosing black diamond runs in all conditions,
- Have skied actively at mountain resorts for many consecutive years,
- Are able to ski in control on all types of terrain,
- Can side-step, traverse, kick-turn, and maneuver in other ways as conditions dictate,
- Are comfortable skiing in a variety of snow conditions, from boot-top powder to crust and crud, and anything in between,
- Are fit enough to ski for a number of consecutive days, and
- Can keep up with most experienced skiers, even if your style isn’t as polished.
First-time Heli-Skiers should consider our Powder Introduction program. Our expert instructors, also certified mountain guides, will see that any anxiety you feel disappears after just a few runs.
If you’re not sure whether you’re ready for Heli-Skiing, please call us to discuss further.
We also invite you to take a look at our video, Introducing CMH Heli-Skiing.
Tips for a First Time Heli-Skier:
- Book a Powder Introduction Program
- Ski as much as possible in advance
- Challenge yourself with steeper runs & away from groomed slopes
- Take lessons and get an honest assessment of your ability
- Get fit! Improve your strength and endurance. See past-issues of CMH News for ideas.
Please note: If a skier has over-estimated his or her skill-level, we reserve the right to have this skier return to the lodge after a couple of runs and/or remain in the lodge. This decision depends on the snow conditions and stability and the terrain hazards in the areas available to us for skiing. The safety of ALL skiers is our overriding priority. Skiers who cannot keep up with the group may be asked to remain in the lodge or leave before the end of the week.
